Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa
Last Week
Even with a snow day, last week was busy! We finished our mid-year NWEA assessments, which always feels good. The children worked hard and did a good job of staying focused. You will get these results with T2 progress reports as I mentioned before. It feels great to see the growth since the beginning of the year. 😀
Due to a HUGE amount of Paws Tickets earned by our kindergartners, we had a great Pajama Day on Friday which included a Progressive Dance Party. We danced first in our classrooms, then went to Mrs. Lear's room and then to Ms. Sisk's room. It was big fun dancing but also to see the other classrooms. Mr. Rommel even joined us for a while.
Snack and Leaders
Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

Next Week Events
Our Positivity Project trait is Kindness. You say and do nice things. You help others.
The biggest news for next week is that we are getting a new student! That will put us at 11 girls and 11 boys. That sounds like a perfect class to me!! Hudson will begin on Monday and we will be so happy to welcome him. I know our class will work hard to make him feel welcome. 😊
This week we are blessed to be getting 3 teacher cadets in our class! For the most part, 1 will come each day and will help with reading and anything else we need. They are all seniors at SJHS who have an interest in possibly becoming teachers. They will join us from 1:05-2:45 each day.
Thursday is our day to go Ice Skating. Please be sure your child has adequate clothing for the day. Even if it is not too cold, the children need mittens/gloves and snow pants on the rink. The schedule is below but basically we will be at the rink from 12:15-1:15. We would love as many grown up helpers as possible. You must have a background check on file and a desire to help and have fun with kiddos. Here is the volunteer link. Ice Skating Volunteer Sign Up
Monday I am sending home the complete set of sight words for the year. Please add them to your child's baggie and practice them often. We have sent them a small amount at a time, but find that parents would like them all at this point to keep the learning going at home. Learning these words helps in the reading process greatly. This is an exciting time in our class as many are beginning to read! I have the best job there is!!
Please be sure to --
- Send a leak-proof, water bottle each day
- You are welcome and encouraged to leave a pair of shoes at school in the winter.
- Dress your child for the weather of the day-snow pants, boots, hat and mittens
- Empty your child's folder each day
Thank you for returning Library books by Tuesday of each week.
Please be sure your child has gym shoes each Friday.
Upcoming Events
Monday, February 5—100th Day Celebration-The students will each do a 100th day project to display at school. Information for this
will come home on Monday.
Tuesday, February 14--Valentine's Day Celebration-We will make Valentine bags in class for collection. I will send home directions
for how to address your child's valentines and class lists on Friday. As far as valentines go, you will be given a sheet with each of our classmates' names and numbers in boxes. Your child is to cut out all the names and tape or glue one on each valentine to be distributed during our party. Your child will only need to sign his/her name to the valentines they wish to give to classmates. It is a great matching activity as each child will have made a Valentine Bag at school with the same name and number box. If you have any questions once you get the sheet, please let me know.
Wednesday, February 21--Family Lego Night @ Brown
Thursday and Friday, February 22, 23--1/2 day of school--Parent/Teacher conferences
Friday, March 8--Brown School Variety Show
Tuesday, March 12--Science Night
