 Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

                                                 Last Week

The Solar Eclipse was such a neat experience on Monday. We are grateful to Mrs. Francis, a science teacher at Upton Middle School for receiving a grant to purchase a pair of glasses for every student in SJ Schools. I think it is a memory our children will hold on to and enjoy retelling. I hope your child came home full of excitement and was able to tell you all about it.

On Thursday your child came home with a bound book that he/she helped to illustrate and create. Each of our Brown kindergartners drew a picture and gave a story starter to a SJHS Child Development student from Ms. Allen's class. On Thursday morning all 40 (2 classes) students came to read the story to their K student. Each kinder was then given the book. It was a wonderful event for us all. See if your child can remember their high school student's name and a little bit about him/her.

Snack and Leaders

Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

Next Week Events

Positivity Project trait is Forgiveness-I show kindness to others even if they are not kind to me.

During Daily 5 we will work on the strategies of Cause and Effect and Making Connections. 

Please be sure to read with/to your child each day. Reading comes more easily to those who have been read to regularly and exposed to many books. 

During our Math time we are reviewing 2-D shapes (circle, square, rectangle, triangle, hexagon) and learning how to identify and describe 3-D shapes (cube, sphere, cone, cylinder). 

Our next Guest Reader will be Mrs. Terry coming on Wednesday, April 17 at 3:15. Please bring 3-4 of your favorite books to share with us.

• Please send a leak-proof, water bottle each day. Several children are coming without them.
• Dress your child for the weather of the day-whatever that may be 😏.
• Empty your child's folder each day

Thank you for returning Library books by Tuesday of each week. 

Please be sure your child has gym shoes each Friday. 

Upcoming Events

The Scholastic Book Order sent home last week is due by Wednesday, April 24. Please feel no obligation but know that there are good deals on books for all ages. Let me know if you have any questions regarding ordering online.

Our Spring Mileage Club will be held the weeks of April 29th and May 6th. Please have your child bring back his/her charm necklace in order to add new charms to the collection.
