Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

                         Last Week

It was great to be back last week even if it was a short week. I hope you all stayed safe and warm through this first big snow storm of the year. Our long weekend became longer yet as the snow days continued to come. As far as we know, we will be going to school tomorrow (Thursday). 

Last week we were given an age appropriate lesson on Safe Touch from the experts of the Children's Advocacy Center. Your child came home with a coloring book which gives parents the concepts and vocabulary used to teach this important subject. We are fortunate to have this resource. 

                                                 Snack and Leaders

Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

 

Branson, Piper and Kamilla are welcome to bring a show and tell our first day back in light of missing their leader days.

Due to allergies, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. Thank you!

We will snack in the afternoon each day (our lunch time is 11:30). It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day.  Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week Events

We hope to take the Reading portion of the NWEA assessment this week. It is midyear, so it is time to measure the growth of our students. You will receive the results with the T2 progress reports. Please don't place too much importance upon these scores. At this level the results aren't completely valid due to user error, etc. 

We will continue writing Personal Narratives in Writers' Workshop, learning about Pushes and Pulls in Science, Making Connections and Inferences during Daily 5 and addition and subtraction in Math. 

During the winter months, please feel free to leave a pair of gym shoes at school. We don't want children wearing boots all day (particularly on the rug we sit on).

Please be sure to --

• Send a leak-proof, water bottle each day
• Dress your child for the weather of the day-snow pants, boots, hat and mittens
• Empty your child's folder each day

Thank you for returning Library books by Tuesday of each week. 

Please be sure your child has gym shoes each Friday.
