Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

                         Last Week

Bucks for Brown ended with a wonderful celebration for us all! We can not thank our parents enough for the generous giving to our PTO fund! The current total is $33,000.00!!! We are so grateful, as are the children. Brown School is a very special place full of amazing children and families. ❤


Now that the weather is more like fall, please be sure your child has adequate outdoor clothing each day. We go outside

3 times a day and we want all the children to be comfortable. Thank you.


Snack and Leaders


Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

Due to allergies, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. Thank you!

We will snack in the afternoon each day (our lunch time is 11:30). It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day.  Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week Events


Next week we will continue to work on the skills of identifying main idea and supporting details using our first Readers' Theater book, "My Family." This is our introduction to sight words as well. On Friday your child will come home with a copy of this book to keep and read over and over to anyone who will listen 😏. I ask that you find a place for your child to put all of the books he/she can read. Many will be coming home as the year goes on. I will also send home the first set of sight words in a zip lock bag. Please have your child cut out the flash cards and go over them often. More will come with each Readers' Theater book (which is every 3 weeks).


Our first Guest Reader, Mrs. Battista will arrive at 3:20 on Wednesday, October 11th. Please bring

2-3 books with you to read. There are many open dates on the schedule. Please find one that works for you on the Guest

reader document I have shared with you. (If you can’t find it, please ask) DeLapa Guest Readers


Thank you for returning Library books by Tuesday of each week. 


Just a reminder that the students must wear gym shoes each Friday.


Please, please label your child's outdoor clothing, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc.

Upcoming Events


October 17th, 6:30 pm: Community Planetarium Night

The first community night of the year at the Upton Middle School planetarium. The show will be “The Little Star that Could”, which is targeted for kindergarten through second grade. This event is free and open to the public.


October 17th, 7:45 am: Donuts with Someone Special. Please meet on the playground to enjoy a sweet treat.


Our first field trip to Bumbleberry Acres will be Friday, October, 20th. I have sent an email to those volunteering for this trip.

Please join me in hoping for a beautiful fall day for our trip. More on this in next week's blog.


Picture retakes are October 23.


Our Fall Festival will be on Tuesday, October 31st. The children may wear costumes that day for the party. Please

keep all of our Kindergartners in mind when choosing the costume for your child. There should be no costumes worn that

might scare the children or masks worn. Let’s keep our wholesome environment in mind and be sure all are comfortable and

able to enjoy the day. If you have any questions about your choice, please ask.

We are grateful to Mrs. Francis, a science teacher at Upton Middle School for receiving a grant to purchase a pair of glasses for every student in SJ Schools. I think it is a memory our children will hold on to and enjoy retelling. I hope your child came home full of excitement and was able to tell you all about it.   Kindergarten Connection Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa                               Last Week I hope the Gingerbread houses made it home in good shape (I realize the chances of that are slim 😏). We certainly had a great time making them together. Thank you again to the volunteers who came to help. We could not have done it without you.  November homework and Book-It calendars are welcome back for a trip to the treasure chest and Pizza Hut certificate.   Kindergarten Connection Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa                                                             Last Week Last week flew by! Ice skating was a blast from what I hear. I was so sorry to miss this great event. Mrs. Gideon took some good pictures and really enjoyed the day with your wonderful children. A huge thank you goes out to all the parents who came to help get skates on and tied, help with skating and then getting them off again. We just couldn't do fun things like this without the amazing support from all of you! It was fun welcoming Hudson into our class.
