Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

                         Last Week

Our first Readers' Theater book, "My Family," came home with your child on Friday. Please listen to your child read this book over and over as he/she shows off this new skill. Find a place for your child to keep all of the books he/she can read. Many will be coming home as the year goes on.

Now that the weather is more like fall, please be sure your child has adequate outdoor clothing each day. We go outside

3 times a day and we want all the children to be comfortable. Thank you.

Snack and Leaders

Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

Due to allergies, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. Thank you!

We will snack in the afternoon each day (our lunch time is 11:30). It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day.  Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week Events

Monday the first set of sight words will come home in a zip lock bag. (I hoped to send these last Friday 😧 )Please have your child cut out the flash cards and go over them often. More will come with each Readers' Theater book. (which is every 3 weeks).

On Tuesday morning we will have "Donuts With a Special Grown Up" beginning at 7:45 am on our playground. This is compliments of our wonderful PTO.

Next week we will begin to work on the skills of analyzing characters and visualizing during Daily 5. I am so proud of the independence shown by our class during this time. This has allowed me to work with small groups of children on specific skills. Everyone loves small groups.

Our next Guest Reader, Mrs. Berlin, will arrive at 3:20 on Wednesday, October 18th. Please bring 2-3 books with you to

read. There are some open dates on the schedule if you would like to sign up. DeLapa Guest Readers

We are excited about our first field trip to Bumbleberry Acres on Friday morning!! Please be sure your child is dressed warmly as we will be outside the entire time.

Pictures will be posted so be sure you are following the Brown School Facebook page to see the fun. This is a closed fb page for our school only. Once you ask to follow, Mrs. Johnson, our library aide will quickly confirm that you are a Brown parent, and your access will be granted.

Thank you for returning Library books by Tuesday of each week.

Just a reminder that the students must wear gym shoes each Friday.

Please, please label your child's outdoor clothing, lunch boxes, water bottles, etc.

Upcoming Events

Picture retakes are October 23.

Our Fall Festival will be on Tuesday, October 31st. Our committee is working on making it a time to remember. The children may wear costumes to school the day of the party. Be sure to keep in mind your child's ability to use the restroom throughout the day in his/her chosen costume. Please keep all of our Kindergartners in mind when choosing the costume for your child. There should be no costumes worn that might scare the children. Let’s keep our wholesome environment in mind and be sure all are comfortable and able to enjoy the day. If you have any question about your choice, please ask. The kindergarten classes will not be participating in the Halloween parade. We have found that some of the costumes can be scary and we can look forward to more time for our party ☺.
