Kindergarten Connection
Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa
Announcements
For all who have submitted a volunteer sheet, the volunteer list for trips and parties was sent to you last week.
Please let me know if you did not receive it or if your contact info is incorrect. Also, let me know if you can no longer help
for an assigned event.Thank you for your willingness to help.
As I'm sure you heard, the SJHS Marching band came to perform for us during lunch recess. It was thrilling to see and hear
them right in our playground!
We had two of our SJHS varsity football players as guest readers on Friday afternoon. Marshall Piersma and Riley Halverson did such great jobs with our kiddos. They each read a fun book and answered many questions. Both of these young men were my kindergartners a "few" years ago. 💙💛 The players come to the elementary schools on weeks they have home games. It is fun that our kinders will get to know them over this time. The football guys are pretty much celebrities you know. 🏈 It is so great and we all love this time.
Your children are amazing! We learned our 4th of 5 Daily 5 choices, Read to Someone, last week. Every one of them got right to work, followed directions and enjoyed the reading time with a friend. They impress me every day. I am blessed! 💕
Please continue to work on pulling jacket sleeves right side out and zipping. The boys and girls feel so good about
themselves when they can do these things independently. A couple quick sessions, and they will have it! Several children
need to work on putting on and taking off their Art Shirts. Please practice this at home as well. Thank you.
Snack and Leaders
Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

Due to allergies, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. Thank you!
We will snack in the afternoon each day (our lunch time is 11:30). It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day. Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week Events
Next week we will begin to work on the skills of identifying main idea and supporting details during our Language Arts block. As you read at home, ask your child about these things. You may be surprised at what they know. The students
should be able to tell who the characters are and the setting of the story too.
Mileage Club will continue on M, W and F of this week. Currently we are in 2nd place for the Y5's-2 grades for total laps
run. Our class is full of energy and is taking this challenge seriously. I am proud of them! We will keep you posted on how they are doing. 🏃
Background checks MUST be submitted for any volunteer working throughout our school environment or with our
students on field trips. This includes guest readers, party volunteers, etc. Please stop in the office to get a form to complete. I am happy to send a form home with your child too. Just let me know. Please note: it could take up to two weeks to receive clearance.
We have ½ days on Thursday and Friday, 10/12 and 13, due to parent teacher conferences. Dismissal time is 12:09. Our kindergarten team decided that we would schedule our conferences during the November 1/2 days for conferences. We find with another month of school under our belts, we know the children better and have more to discuss. I will send a sign up sheet in a couple of weeks. Of course, if you would like to meet before then I would be happy to schedule one.
