Kindergarten Connection

Your child's week with Mrs. DeLapa

                         Announcements

We have completed our NWEA fall testing. Our kiddos did a nice job of staying focused and following directions. This is strictly a baseline and also a first for these students. The results will come home with progress reports at the end of the Trimester.

On Thursday we had our first guest teacher, Mrs. Soyk (yes, this is Henry's mom 😊). I was able to assess each child one on one covering upper and lowercase letters and their sounds, rhyming, concepts of print, counting and writing to 10. I love this time with the children and they get to show me what they know.

It has been fun getting the hang of Table and Math Centers in our room. The children are making good choices and enjoying the experiences. Table centers reinforce skills from any of our curriculum areas. Be sure to ask your child what he/she did during center time. 

Your child checked out his/her first Library book home on Tuesday. Next week, they will come home. Please encourage

careful use of the book. Mrs. Hassenger taught us that we should treat our books as if they are babies. Books will always be

due back for exchange on Tuesdays. You are welcome to return the books early if you like. We have a crate in our room

for them.

Snack and Leaders

Your child will come home with the Leader bag the night before his/her leader day. There is a notebook inside with directions for sharing both a snack with the class and a Show and Tell item. Please refer to the calendar in the back of your child's take home folder for leader and other important dates.

Due to allergies, please refrain from sending snacks that contain any kind of nut. Thank you!

We will snack in the afternoon each day (our lunch time is 11:30). It is not necessary for you to send a snack with your child, as the leader provides it each day.  Thank you for sending a leak-proof water bottle with your child each day.

Next Week Events

Tomorrow is Back to School Night for the elementary schools!! I know you have received several notices about this from Mr. Rommel. Kindergarten parents are invited to come from 5:30-6:00 to our classroom for an informational time of learning everything you want/need to know about our year together. This time is for adults only as we all need to fit into our room 😊. Thank you for prioritizing this time together. Communication is key as we work to make this year the best it can be for your child.

Mileage Club Begins this Week!

Brown School’s Mileage Club will return the weeks of 9/18 and 9/25 during lunch recess. Mileage Club gives students an opportunity to get active by running/walking around the track and earning fun charms! We will need volunteers to help tally laps and string charms onto necklaces during lunch recess Mon/Wed/Fri the weeks of 9/18 and 9/25.

All volunteers must have a completed volunteer consent form on file. If interested, please sign up here!

Wednesday, 9/13, is a Late Start. We will begin school exactly 1 hour later than usual at 9:25. The buses will pick up 1 hour later than usual as well. 

I will have our volunteer schedule out to you this week. Thank you for your patience as we solidify our field trips and party dates.

I would like some help with 2 readiness areas to aide in a quick exit to recess each day once the weather becomes cooler.

Please work with your child on pulling jacket sleeves right side out and zipping. The boys and girls feel so good about

themselves when they can do these things independently. A couple quick sessions, and they will have it! Thank you.

Background checks MUST be submitted for any volunteer working throughout our school environment or with our

students on field trips.  This includes guest readers, party volunteers, etc. Please stop in the office to get a form to complete.  I am happy to send a form home with your child too. Just let me know. Please note: it could take up to two weeks to receive clearance.
